Voluntary, Open Membership
Membership is open to all.
Democratic Member Control
One member, one vote. Your voice will be heard.
Member Economic Participation
Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of the co-operative. The economic benefits of a co-operative operation are returned to the members, reinvested in the co-op, or used to provide member services. You control the capital.
Autonomy and Independence
Co-operatives are autonomous, self-help organisations controlled by their members. Together, you are autonomous and independent.
Education, Training and Information
Co-operatives provide education and training for members so they can contribute effectively to the development of their co-operatives.
They inform the general public about the nature and benefits of co-operation. It develops members on an individual basis and assists them to perform their role effectively within their co-operative.
Co-operation among Co-operatives
Co-operatives serve their members effectively and strengthen the co-operative movement by working together through local, regional, national and international structures. Joining together to share skills and knowledge strengthens a co-operative business and communities working together.
Concern for the Community
While focusing on member needs, co-operatives work for the sustainable development of their communities.
CO-OPERATIVE WORKING MAKES THE COMMUNITY
